1684. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide by Hydrogenation With a Catalyst.] Netherlands Patent 55,360, Oct. 15, 1943. Chem. Abs., vol. 41, 1947, p. 3280.

Catalyst is prepared by precipitating a solution of Fe and Ca salts with alkali hydroxide; the Ca content, calculated as CaO or Ca (OH)2, is at least 5% of the Fe content; for example, Fe 259 gm. in form of Fe(NO3)3·H2O and CaO 10 gm. as Ca (NO3)2 were dissolved in 600 gm. H2O and heated to boiling. To this solution is added 425 cc. 40% NaOH, specific gravity 1.438, at least at 50° . After stirring and filtering, the residue was washed 2 times with 350 cc. H2O at 80° -90° until the nitrate content was under 1.5%. The hydroxides were dried and reduced with the synthesis gas or with H. They can be impregnated with alkali solution and 2-5% Cu or Ni may be added.
