1677. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Hydrocarbons by Conversion of Carbon Monoxide With Hydrogen in the Presence of Catalysts.] Netherlands Patent 50,858, Sept. 15, 1941. Chem. Abs., vol. 36, 1942, p. 5337.

To prevent attack of the siliceous carrier, such as kieselguhr, asbestos, meerschaum firebrick, by the alkali used in coprecipitation of metals, Fe, Co, Ni, for use as catalyst in the synthesis of hydrocarbons, the carrier is pretreated with alkali, the soluble material made insoluble by heating, or the precipitation performed in a minimum time. Drying the kieselguhr at 600°-700° and calcining it at 1,000°-1,100° reduced the solubility to 1/5.
