Conversion of CO and H2 into solid and liquid hydrocarbons is effected in presence of Fe- and Ni-containing catalysts, which have been prepared by gradually precipitating reducible Fe and Ni compounds by gradual addition to a solution maintained at a pH value of not less than 8 of a mixed solution of the salt of the metals at a temperature not exceeding 40° .
