Process and apparatus are described for the production of liquid hydrocarbons by the hydrogenation of oxides of C in the presence of a catalyst.  Powdered catalyst is suspended in a gaseous mixture of CO and H2 and the suspension is passed upward through 1 or more externally cooled stationary reaction tubes 1.5-5.0 inc. in diameter.  The tubes are arranged parallel within a chamber in which a cooling medium is circulated.
