      1612.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Working Up Mixtures of Oxygen-Containing Compounds With Hydrocarbons Obtained Through Conversion of Carbon Monoxide With Hydrogen.]  German Patent Appl. I 69,189.  OZ 12,656, filed Mar. 20. 1941  (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 165. frames 4,346-4,350:  PB 66,846: PB 25,609; FIAT Reel B-196, frames 183-187; PB 83,253; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II.  Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 7, chap. 195, 1950. p. 29.

In a process for working up mixtures of liquid and/or solid hydrocarbons with O-containing compounds obtained in the conversion of CO with H2, these mixtures or portions of them are treated, before any noteworthy heating takes place, with solid inorganic acid-binding substances, preferably at slightly increased temperature.  Example:  To 100 kg. of such a mixture as above are added with stirring 2 kg. of powdered Ca (OH)2: the mixture is then heated with further stirring to 80º.  Reaction is complete in 5 minutes.  The liquid is poured off, the salt washed with liquid pentane and the total liquid fractionated.  The yield of alcohols is greatly increased and that of esters and fatty acids greatly diminished over that obtained without the pretreatment.
