            In converting CO and H₂ to hydrocarbons or their derivatives containing O, the catalysts used are prepared by precipitating metals of the Fe group as compounds reducible to metals by heating with H₂, adding compounds that are difficult to reduce to metals, treating the mixture preferably in the presence of reducing gases to a temperature at which at least partial concretion takes place.  Thus Fe Hydroxide is precipitated, mixed with a mud of Al₂O₂, the mixture is dried and heated in H₂ to 850º.
