      1596.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Synthetic Gasoline.]  French Patent 855,122. no date.  Kainer. p. 261.

Hydrocarbon oils from the hydrogenation of CO are profitably cracked to antiknock gasoline by treatment at temperatures >350º and at pressures of at least 15 atm., preferably >20 atm., and in presence of catalysts of silicic acid or silicates.  Example: Gasol obtained by synthesis from CO and H2 is cracked at 460º and 30 atm. over bleaching earth at the rate of 1 1. gasol over 2 1. catalyst per hr.  The cracked product contains 45% of gasoline boiling up to 200º with an octane number of 69.5, which can be raised to 84 by adding 0.09 vol. % of tetraethyl Pb.
