      1593.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  Synthesis of Organic Compounds From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.  British Patent 313,467, July 11, 1929; appl. filed Feb. 9, 1928.  Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 1118.

In the production of hydrocarbons and O-containing compounds containing a plurality of C atoms from CO and H2 by pressure catalytic reactions, the operation is effected in a circulatory system with a gas mixture containing only the reactants in requisite proportion for the reaction and extraneous gases such as CH4, C2H6, N2, or rare gases to the extent of at least 40% by volume.  The process is especially suitable for the production of liquid hydrocarbons with catalysts containing Fe and Co, and to the manufacture of acids, esters, alcohols and ketones by the use of catalysts containing Fe, Cd, and Cu, or K, Zn, and Cr, or Zn, Cr, and Mn.  The reacting gases are preferably freed from CO2, S compounds, and Fe carbonyl.
