            Volatile hydrocarbons formed by the catalytic reaction of H2 and CO are rendered stable to spontaneous combustion by treating them at high temperature with agents having a condensing action, such as decolorizing earth impregnated with H3PO4, AlCL3, ZnCl2, SnCl2, or B fluoride.
