      1559.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Separation of Alcohols From Their Mixtures With Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. I 77,004.  OZ 14,653. filed Mar. 13, 1944 (Cl. 12 o).  FIAT Reel 172, frames 611-614; PB 25,616.

Oxygenated organic compounds, particularly alcohols, in mixtures with hydrocarbons produced by the conversion of CO with H2, are separated therefrom by adding H2O-free MeOH to the mixture in amounts of 1/5-1/3 of the volume and then sufficient H2O to cause a separation into 2 layers, 1 of which consists almost entirely of the hydrocarbons and the other of oxygenated compounds.  In general, the amount of H2O required is about 15-25% of the volume of MeOH added.
