      1537.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Recovery of Organic Acids.]  German Patent Appl. I 75,006.  OZ 14,172. filed May 12, 1943 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 170. frames 8,907-8,910: PB 25,614: Meyer Transl.  PC-S-IV.  Wax Oxidation. vol. 3. chap. 35. 1949. p. 9.

Describes process for recovering H2O-soluble organic acids from acid mixtures, which have been obtained by the oxidation of nonaromatic hydrocarbons, saponification, separation of the unsaponifiable portions, and splitting of the crude soap with mineral acid.  To recover the lower volatile H2O-soluble acids the crude fatty-acid mixture is first subjected to distillation up to about 140º under a pressure of 25 mm., and then to about 140º under a pressure of 25 mm., and then the less volatile, H2O-soluble acids are treated with H2O or aqueous solutions.  The crude fatty-acid mixture obtained in accordance with the process of German Patent 707,227 (abs. 2081) is a suitable charging stock.
