            Alcohols such as methyl or iso-Bu alcohol obtained catalytically from H2 and C oxides are purified by use of oxidizing agents such as KMnO4, H2O2, persulfates, percarbonates, or hypohalites, followed by distillation.  Organic bases or fixing agents such as ZnCl2 may be added in small quantities, and auxiliary purifying agents may also be used such as NaOH, NaHSO3, or oxalic acid.
