      1508.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Production of Oxygenated Organic Compounds.]  German Patent Appl. I 72,975, OZ 13,604, filed Aug. 15, 1942 (Cl. 12 o-5.02).  FIAT Reel 168, frames 7,116-7,120; PB 68,485: TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454. item 21; Meyer Transl. PC-S-V. Oxo. vol. 1, chap. 20, 1948. p. 50.

In the process for producing oxygenated organic compounds by reacting CO and H2 with olefins at raised temperature and pressure in presence of catalysts and with subsequent hydrogenation, a raw material is used that has been thoroughly freed from organic S compounds (various methods are specified), and the conversion and the subsequent hydrogenation are carried out in the presence of metals of group 8.  The conversion process is performed at 80º-150º and at east 50 atm. for 1 hr., with an excess of S-free water gas so that the catalyst is kept suspended.  After hydrogenation and separation by filtration and distillation of the filtrate, a yield of 60% of C15-C19 alcohols, calculated on the olefinic converted, is obtained.
