      1502.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Production of Oxygenated Compounds Particularly Aldehydes or Ketones.]  German Patent Appl. I 72,741. OZ 13,552, filed July 15. 1942 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 168, frames 6,908-6,911: PB 68,437.

Olefins, such as ethylene or isobutylene, are reacted at raised temperature (100º-400º) and pressure (50-350 atm.), with CO and H2O in presence of catalysts consisting of carbonyl-forming metals such as Ni, Co, W, or Mo on a carrier.  A mixture, for example, of equal part of C2H4 and CO, and 50 cc. H2O to each l. of catalyst, is passed over a Co catalyst (15% Co) on silica gel.  By distillation of the liquid conversion products, diethylketone is obtained beside alcohols and aldehydes.
