      1465.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for the Production of ALcohols.]  German Patent Appl. I 75,247. OZ 14,226, filed June 9, 1943 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 170, frames 9,064-9,070; PB 64,150.

Process is given such as described in German Patent Appl. I 70,009 (abs. 1373) and I 75,246 (abs 1467) for the production of alcohols by the conversion of other alcohols of lower C number using CO and H2 at increased temperature and pressure.  The temperature and pressure conditions are maintained under which conversion takes place in the liquid phase.  The catalysts are made up of carbonyl-forming metals of the 8th group or compounds of them and are activated by additions of heavy metals of group 5 or 6, their salts, or oxides.  Particularly advantageous are halogenides of groups 1, 5, or 6.  The object of the invention is to produce the greatest quantity of the lower alcohol with exclusion of the higher alcohols, acids, esters, and the like.  Gives 5 examples.
