      1455.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Shifting the Double Bond in Olefinic Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. I 73,149. OZ 13,662. filed Sept. 12, 1942 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 168. frames 7,363-7,367: PB 68,533; TOM Reel 17, item 31, frames 820-824; TOM Reel 134, item VII-9, 5 pp.: Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 3. chap. 123, 1948. p. 54.

Olefinic hydrocarbons with at least 4 C atoms in a straight chain may have their double bonds shifted to middle positions by subjecting the hydrocarbon to the action of a metal carbonyl under such conditions of temperature and pressure that the hydrocarbon is changed to the isomeric form.  Example: A Fischer-Tropsch product b. 100º-160º, is heated for 2 hr. at 150º and under 70 atm. pressure in the presence of CO and about 3% of Co on kieselguhr.  After the treatment there is noted a considerable increase in octane number of the gasoline but no other change in the properties.
