     1440.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Valuable Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. -, OZ 12,147, filed May 6, 1940.  TOM Reel 17, item 30, frames 774-779.

Valuable hydrocarbons are produced by conducting an equimolar mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzol and the higher boiling alcoholic products of the MeOH synthesis, in the vapor state over condensation catalysts consisting of phosphoric acid on a silicate carrier, preferably asbestos.  The alcohols have 5-10 C atoms, and average mol. wt. of 112, and an end b. p. of 180º.  The pressure is 50 atm., and the temperature is 322º.  The product, particularly the main fraction b. 90º-200º, is subjected to mild hydrogenation at 200 atm. and 190º in presence of a Ni-WS2 catalyst whereby only the olefins are hydrogenated.  An olefin product is obtained with an octane No. of about 115. C. F. R. method.
