      1438.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Oxygen-Containing Organic Compounds.]  German Patent Appl. I 68,296, OZ 12,449. filed Nov. 25, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 164. frames 2,884-2,891: PB 75,130: TOM Reel 36, item 21, bag 3,454. 8 pp.: Meyer Transl.  PC-S-V. Oxo. vol. 1. chap. 9. 1948. p. 20.

In a process for producing O-containing organic compounds, particularly aldehydes and ketones also alcohols.  CO And H2 are cause to react with olefin compounds with double bonds at increased pressure (150-250 atm.) in the presence of catalysts, the active constituents of which consist of Co together with excess amounts of one or more easily reducible oxides of metals that do not form carbonyls, for example: 10% Cu: 1% Co: 89% silica gel.  The catalyst may be used in the solid fixed form or as a suspension in the reacting gases.  It is preferable that the gas mixture contain an excess of CO+H2 over the olefinic portion.  The conversion reaction should take about 1-2 hr. for completion.  The product normally amounts to about 95% calculated on the olefins processed, with 80% of aldhydes.
