      1436.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Organic Oxygen-Containing Compounds.]  German Patent Appl. I 69,072. OZ 12,616, filed Mar. 6, 1941 (Cl. IV d-12 o)  FIAT Reel 165, frames 3,574-3,579; PB 66,691.

In a process for the production of organic O-containing compounds, acetals are treated with a mixture of CO and H2 (1 : 2) in the presence of catalysts consisting of metals capable of forming carbonyls such as Co and Ni, with additions, if desired, of other metals such as Cu or metal oxides of Al, Mg, or Th deposited on carriers such as active C or Kieselguhr and under increased pressure (75-250 atm.) and temperature (100º-300º).  If desired the products can be treated with H2 in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts.  They resemble glycols in their properties and appearance.
