      1435.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Organic Oxygen-Containing Compounds.]  German Patent Appl. -, OZ 13,983. filed Feb. 8, 1943.  TOM Reel 17, item 32, frames 916-919: Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch. vol. 2 chap. 91, 1948, p. 47.

Organic, O-containing compounds are obtained by reducing CO with H2 over catalysts containing metals of the Fe group at medium pressure and at temperatures <250º.  The resulting oxygenated compounds, with the addition, if desired, of compounds containing hydroxyl or aldehyde groups is subjected to a mild H2O-splitting treatment.  The products are useful as solvents, softners, and plasticizers.
