      1424.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Condensation Products.]  German Patent Appl. -, OZ 14,046, filed Mr. 3, 1943.  TOM Reel 17, item 32, frames 920-927.

Cyclic hydrocarbons or their derivatives are condensed with the synthesis products containing olefins and alcohols obtained by the catalytic reduction of CO with H2<250º and at a medium pressure in the presence of catalysts of the Fe group, especially Fe.  Substances that create H2O solubility are introduced into the condensation products.  Example: 200 parts of the synthesis product are mixed with an equal amount of phenol and 100 parts of ZnCl and the mixture heated with stirring under reflux for 12 hr. at 180º.  The condensation product is washed with H2O and the oily layer distilled under reduced pressure.  The major part goes over at 15 mm. pressure at 190º-240º as a light-yellow oil, which is made H2O soluble and can be used as emulsifier, wetting agent, and detergent.
