      1415.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Obtaining High-Molecular Fatty Acids.]  German Patent Appl. I 77,898. OZ 14,882. filed July 25, 1944 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 171, frames 10,663-10,665: PB 25,615: Meyer Transl. PC-S-IV.  Wax Oxidation, vol. 3, chap. 44. 1949, p. 24.

Residues from the distillation of the fatty acid mixtures obtained by oxidation of paraffin are treated with acid and then further distilled under diminished pressure.  Example: 100 parts of the residue from the distillation of the fatty acid mixture obtained by oxidation of brown-coal paraffin and containing 14% of unsaponifiable material was stirred for ½ hr. at 95º with 100 parts of 25% H2SO4, washed free from acid with hot H2O, and then dried.  The steam distillation of the treated residue at 1 mm. pressure yielded up to 340º, nearly 40% of a distillate with a content of about 80% fatty acids with the saponification number of 176.
