      1412.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Improving the Products From Reduction of Carbon Monoxide.]  German Patent Appl. -.  OZ 13,686, filed Sept. 22. 1942. TOM Reel 15. bag 3,043, item 18, frames 2,414-2,418:  Meyer Transl.  PC-S-II.  Fischer-Tropsch.  Vol. 2. chap. 103. 1948. p. 88.

Products obtained from the conversion of CO with H2, which contain oxygenated compounds in addition to hydrocarbons, especially those obtained at medium pressure in the presence of Fe catalysts, have their odor improved by treatment with bisulfite solution.  Example: A fraction of the above products b. >200º is obtained by distillation and treated in a stirring vessel for 5 min. with about 1/3 its volume of a nearly saturated solution of sodium bisulfite.  After the operation is finished, the gasoline layer is separated and subjected to distillation.  A glass-dish gum test of 100 cc. of the untreated gasoline showed 12.2 mg. as compared with only 2.0 mg. with the treated sample.  The color of the product was greatly improved also.
