      1405.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Process for Carrying Out Hydrogenation Reactions.]  German Patent Appl. I 74,060, OZ 13,912. filed Jan. 12. 1943 (Cl. IV b-12 g)  FIAT Reel 169. frames 8,078-8,085: PB 25,613: TOM Reel 17, item 39, frames 1,133-1,140; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II.  Fischer-Tropsche. Vol. 3. chap. 114, 1948. p. 22.

In carrying out catalytic hydrogenation reactions, such as ammonia synthesis, hydrogenation or organic compounds, and conversion of CO with H2, catalysts are used that are obtained by reduction with H2 of compounds of metals of the Fe group at 300º-500º, treatment of the cooled reduction products with weakly oxygenated gases until O2 adsorption slackens or ceases, and renewed reduction at a temperature (150º-250º) below that of the 1st reduction step.  Catalysts produced in this manner are said to maintain their efficiency over longer periods of operation and are immune to the action of air.
