            In the catalytic preparation of oxygenated organic compounds, for example, MeOH, by reduction of oxides of C by H2 or hydrocarbons or both at high temperatures and pressures , the mixture of gases entering the reaction is completely freed from catalyst poisons, not only S compounds, especially organic ones, but also from volatile Fe compounds, preferably by using active C.
