            In producing alcohols and other oxygenated organic compounds by interaction of CO with vaporized aliphatic alcohols or esters, as described in British Patent 254,819 (abs. 78), the presence of free Fe, Ni, or Co or volatile compounds of these metals is excluded from the inner parts of the apparatus, the catalysts, and the reaction gases.
