      1365.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Oxidation of Higher Molecular Weight Nonaromatic Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent Appl. I 67,836, OZ 12,350, filed Sept. 12, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 6)  FIAT Reel 164, frames 2,565-2.568; PB 25,608; Meyer Transl. PC-S-IV, Wax Oxidation, vol. 3, chap. 49, 1949. p. 35.

In the preparation of oxidation products, such as fatty acids, by the oxidation of nonaromatic, higher molecular weight hydrocarbons in the liquid phase with O2 or gases containing it in the presence of catalysts, especially good results are obtained if at the beginning or during the oxidation, aldehydes besides metal-containing catalysts, are added to the hydrocarbons to be oxidized.  It is especially advantageous to use the aldehydes that are obtained by the oxidation of paraffin hydrocarbons or which can be produced from the alcohols or acids resulting from oxidation or reduction.  The effect of the aldehydes is made evident by a decrease of the oxidation time as well as the improvement of the properties of the oxidation products and in an increase in the yield of valuable products, especially of distillable fatty acids.
