      1356.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE, A. G.]  [Motor Fuels.]  French Patent 790,873, Nov. 28, 1935.  Chem. Abs., vol. 30, 1936, p. 3206.

Fuels stable to self-ignition are prepared by subjecting a mixture of CO and H2 to a heat treatment under pressure under such conditions that besides MeOH there is formed principally iso-BuOH and other higher alcohols, removing the MeOH, submitting the higher alcohols, to elimination of H2O, and polymerizing wholly or in part the isoilefins thus octained to form their di- or tri-isoolefins.  The higher alcohols may be separated by fractionation before elimination of H2O, in which case the polymers obtained are mixed.  The products obtained may be completely or partly hydrogenated.  In an example a temperature of 450º-500º and a pressure of 200 atm. is used with a catalyst obtained by introducing ZnO into K2Cr2O7 and reducing by H2.
