MeOH and other O-containing organic compounds, such as alcohols, aldehydes and acids, are produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of the oxides of C under pressure. The catalysts contain metal oxides not reducible to the metals. Fe, Ni, and Co should not be present or only in small amounts.
