            Catalytic hydrogenation of oxides of C is effected at ordinary or slightly raised pressure and at relatively low temperatures, suitably about 100º-250º, by using catalysts comprising Cu and 1 or more oxides of a metal of groups 2-7, obtained by precipitating aqueous solutions of the metals salts with alkalies at moderate temperatures, suitably <30º, and reducing the washed precipitate with H2, CO, or their mixtures with inert gases.  Gives various details and examples.
