      1320.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  [Iron Catalysts.]  Italian Patent 383,206, May 31, 1940.  Chem. Zentralb., 1942, I, p. 2914.

Catalysts suitable for the conversion of CO and H2 to hydrocarbons and alcohol are made by treating Fe or metals of the Fe group, after mixing with activating substances, with H2O vapor containing H2 at high temperatures >600º and then reduced.  Nascent H2, produced by passing H2O vapor over red-hot Fe, is especially suitable for use.
