      1318.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  Incomplete Oxidation of Saturated Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 265,234, Jan. 29, 1926.  Chem. Abs., vol. 22, 1928, p. 243.

Gaseous or vaporous hydrocarbons, particularly saturated hydrocarbons such as CH4, are subjected to incomplete combustion; for example, as a surface combustion in the presence of porous and refractory ceramic material, with pure O2 or a gas containing at least 50% O2, at temperatures above 850º, which may exceed 1,000º, to obtain unsaturated hydrocarbons such as C2H2 and its polymerization products and various other compounds.  The C2H2 may be converted directly into other products, such as AcH or HOAc.  The yield of C2H2 may be increased by heating the products to about 1,200º in an electric furnace.
