      1311.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  Hydrogenation of Acetylene Compounds.  British Patent 497,427, Dec. 16, 1938.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 3810.

Compounds having acetylenic linkages are converted into compounds containing olefinic linkages by treatment with an aqeous suspension of Zn dust that has been activated by Cu and Cd.  The Zn dust may be treated simultaneously or in turn with solutions of Cu and Cd salts; or a powered alloy containing Zn, Cu, and Cd, with or without other metals, may be used.  The reaction may be effected in the presence of a solvent and/or a dispersing agent.  Among examples, Zn dust is treated in turn with solutions of CuSO4 and CdCl2, suspended in H2O with the aid of the Na salt of oleic acid tauride and vinylacetylene passed through the suspension to produce butadiene.
