Oxides of C are caused to react with H2 at a high temperature in the presence of catalysts, the reaction being carried out in a liquid medium composed of liquid products obtained by causing the starting materials to react under identical conditions, and containing appreciable amounts of constituents which are gaseous or vaporous under the conditions of temperature and pressure used.  Describes apparatus.
