1290.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  Hydrocarbons and Their Oxygenated Derivatives by catalytic Hydrogenation of Carbonaceous Gases or Liquids.  British Patent 328,586. Nov. 26, 1928.  Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930. p. 5476.

In hydrogenations at elevated temperature and under pressures >20 atm., deposition of substances of high molecular weight on the catalysts is prevented by adding a medium that is liquid under the working conditions and is inert to the reaction, such as anthracene oil.  Catalysts are preferably used that are immune from S poisoning such as those comprising metals of the 6th group.  Describes various details of procedure for production of alcohols.
