      1265.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 503,622. Apr. 12, 1939: appl. Filed Oct. 13, 1937.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33. 1939. p. 7528.

Products rich in manufactured hydrocarbons are obtained by the catalytic conversion of CO and H2 at atmospheric or slightly increased pressures with use of a gas that contains <2 vol. of H2 per vol. of CO. passing all the reaction participants and products through the whole reaction space and adding further H2 during the reaction.  In an example, purified water gas containing CO 42.7% and H2 49.1% is led at 195° over a catalyst composed of Co ad oxides of Th and Na applied to kieselguhr, gas containing 95% H2 being added at 4 subsequent places in the reaction chamber in about equal proportions: the benzine fraction of the product b, up to 180° has an octane no. of 55.
