Reactions are effected by moving the catalyst through the reaction zone and raising the temperature in the direction of movement so that the rate of reaction does not decrease to a substantial extent.  The process is suitable for the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons, the reduction of oxides of C, the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons, the hydration of C2H2.
