            In removing organic S compounds and gum-forming substances from gases, the gas before desulfurization is cooled to such low temperatures, preferably –20% to –80°, that the gum-forming substances separate; or, the gas is washed at low temperature with liquids, such as low-molecular alcohols, which have the property of dissolving gum-forming substances.
