            Benzines obtained by reduction of CO are dehydrogenated and/or converted into aromatic hydrocarbons by treatment at 350°-500° in presence of a catalyst comprising alumina with a smaller proportion of a 6th group metal or compound.  In an example, a mixture of alumina 3 and MoO3 1 part is used, and the reaction temperature is 460°, the product having an octane no. of 60 and containing 35% of aromatic hydrocarbons.
