            Hydrocarbons that have been synthesized from CO and H2, are cracked to antiknock gasoline at 350° and at least 15 atm., preferably >20 atm., over catalysts of SiO2 or silicates or containing these substances.  Example:  A gas oil synthesized from CO and H2 at 460° and 30 atm. is cracked over bleaching earth at a throughput of 1 l. gas oil to 2 l. of catalyst per hr.  The product contains 45% of gasoline b. up to 200° with octane number of 69.5%, which can be raised to 84 by addition of 0.09 vol. % of tetraethyl lead.
