      1209.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]   Converting Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Into Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 516,403. Jan. 1, 1940.  Chem. Abs., vol. 35, 1941. p. 6423.

Catalytic conversion of CO and H2 in a liquid medium comprising considerable amounts of constituents, which are gaseous or vaporous under the reaction conditions, is advantageously carried out by first passing the liquid medium along the catalyst chamber in indirect heat exchange relation with the participants of the reaction and then passing it through the catalyst chamber in the same direction as the reaction participants.  Preferably the liquid medium is passed along the reaction chamber countercurrent to the reaction participants, so that while the liquid medium is at its lowest temperature it comes into contact with the hottest part of the catalyst chamber, thus keeping the temperature of the chamber much more uniform.  Describes an apparatus.
