     1200.  ------.  [I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE A. G.]  [Conducting Chemical Conversions.]  German Patent Appl. ------, OZ 13,717, filed Oct. 13, 1942.  TOM Reel 17, item 32, frames 898-905; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 2, chap. 92, 1948, p. 49.

Describes apparatus for carrying out chemical reactions, such as synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2, which require special measures for the removal or introduction of heat, particularly those that must be maintained within a narrow temperature range.  The apparatus is characterized by the arrangement of horizontal or slightly inclined tube bundles, which are filled with a heating or cooling fluid for the removal or addition of the heat of reaction.  The reaction zone is located between the tubes and is filed with a catalyst.  Aside from the tube walls it is traversed by no further heat transfer surfaces.  Presents a formula for calculating the spacing of the cooling tubes, and shows a diagram of the apparatus.
