            In making hydrocarbons or their derivatives containing O from CO and H2 at a high temperature and in the presence of catalysts, there is introduced into the reaction space a mixture of H2, CO, and an inert gas, the amount H2 being less than the amount of CO and the proportion of inert gas being 20-90%.  The inert gas may be CO2 or N2.
