      1190.  ------.[I. G. Farbenindustrie, A. G. Alcohols]  [Catalytic Production of Organic Compounds.]  French Patent 635,950, June 14, 1927.  Chem. Zentralb., 1928, I, p. 2893; Chem. Abs., vol. 22, 1928, p. 4535.

Contact masses, which contain, apart from Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, or their mixtures or alloys, other elements, particularly those of the Fe group or their compounds, in small proportions and in the absence of supports that are poor conductors of heat, are used for the preparation of hydrocarbons and organic O compounds from H2 and oxides of C.  Catalysts containing Cd or Tl or their compounds or mixtures and 1 or more metals of the Fe group or their compounds may be used also.  In examples, water gas is passed over a mixture of oxides of Cu and Co or over oxides of Cu, Fe, and Zr.  CO and H2 are passed over oxides of Cu, Ag and Co, and CrO3.  Water gas is passed over a dried precipitate of carbonates of Fe, Cd, and Cu or over ferrocyanides of Cd and Cu.
