      1172.  ------.[I. G. Farbenindustrie, A. G. Alcohols]  [Catalysts.]  German Patent 756,725, Oct. 23, 1939; appl. I 65,845, OZ 11,841 (Cl. 12 o-1.03).  FIAT Reel 164, frames 3,328-3,333; PB 75,220.

In a process of making catalysts for the conversion of CO with H2, which contains Fe, Co, or Ni in metallic form, the reduced catalyst is provided with a thin, firmly adherent coating of Cu, Ag, or Au.  This treatment enables the operation of conversion to be carried on at higher temperature without the disadvantage of C formation on the catalyst surface, thus prolonging the active life of the catalyst.
