      1166.  ------.[I. G. Farbenindustrie, A. G. Alcohols]  [Catalyst for the Production of High Molecular Hydrocarbons by the Conversion of Carbon Monoxide.]  German Patent Appl. I 74,780, OZ 14,131, filed Apr. 9, 1943 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel 171, frames 10,205-10,211; PB 25,615; FIAT Reel B-28, frames 38,367-38,373; PB 70,302; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 5, chap. 152, 1949, p. 24.

Fe or Fe compounds, capable of being converted to the oxide, are heated with 0.2-25% of metals of the 2d, 6th, or 7th group and with 0.5-15% of alkali metal compounds or salts of organic acids in a nonreducing atmosphere at 600º or more until sintering occurs and reduction is complete.  Example: CO and H2 in proportion of 5 : 4 is conducted at 20 atm. and 250º at a throughput of 250 l. per hr, over a catalyst produced by the decomposition products of Fe carbonyl, mixed with W oxide, K borate, and H2O, pressed into pills, calcined for 4 hr. at 850º in presence of air, and reduced with H2 at 450º.
