1165.  ------.[I. G. Farbenindustrie, A. G. Alcohols]  [Catalyst for Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Water Gas.]  German Patent Appl. I 63,257, OZ 11,220, filed Dec. 18, 1938; APC TC 1,190.

For the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 an Fe catalyst containing alkali boratic is used.  For example, Fe powder from the thermal decomposition of Fe carbonyl is treated with 1% Na borate, dissolved in H2O, then dried, pelleted, and reduced with H2 at 850º for 4 hr.  Subsequent use of these sintered pellets in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis with 1 CO : 1.2 H2 gas at 330º C. and 15 atm. yields about 130 gm. of oil + wax per m.3.
