            Paraffin hydrocarbons of high molecular weight are oxidized at not >115º in the presence of Mn compounds in which the Mn is contained in the anion and an alkali in the cation, for example, K, Na and NH4 manganates, manganites, and permanganates, K Mn cyanide, with or without other catalysts, for example (AcO)2, Mn, or alkaline substances, for example Na2CO3.  Oxidation may be effected by O2, air, or other gases containing O2 and accelerating substances, for example N oxides may be present in small quantities.  Describes apparatus.
