Efficiency of fresh Fischer-Tropsch catalysts in improved on induction by moistening or impregnating them with H2O. The vertical catalyst tubes are filled with H2O up to a certain level. The catalyst is charged into the tubes and the H2O withdrawn to keep it at a constant level until the required amount of catalyst is charged when the excess H2O is withdrawn and warm, 40º-60º, synthesis gas is admitted to expel the last of the H2O. The reactor is then gradually heated to operating temperature. This method lowers the activity of the fresh catalyst by carrying off the too rapid evolution of heat thus reducing the formation of CH4 and increasing the production of liquid products. |
