1044.  ------ [HESS, H. V., AND ARNOLD, G. B.]  (The Texas Co.).  Production of Hydrocarbons and Oxygenated Compounds.  United States Patent 2,558,556, June 26, 1951; appl. filed Aug. 6, 1946, Serial No. 688,624; 3 claim (Cl. 260-450).

In the conversion of CO and H2 into a mixture comprising hydrocarbons, H2O, and O-containing compounds, which are mainly aliphatic alcohols, an improvement is claimed, which comprises effecting separation of the mixture at an elevated temperature of about 200°-350° F. and elevated pressure into a gas phase, a hydrocarbon phase containing substantially all of the C3 and higher alcohols in addition to a substantial part of the ethyl alcohol produced in the conversion, and a H2O phase containing a minor % of the alcoholic conversion products, fractionating the hydrocarbon phase into a gasoline fraction and a gas oil fraction, separating C2 and C3 alcohols form the gasoline fraction, and using the C2 and C3 alcohols to extract oxygenates from the gas-oil fraction.  4 United States patents and 3 literature refs. cited.
